Chicago Motorcoach Regulations

Illinois Tourism: Group Tour & Travel: Chicago Information: City of Chicago Motorcoach Regulations Motorcoaches may discharge waste only at permitted facilities. Under City ordinance, illegal dumping on land or in waterways is prohibited. Violators will incur a fine. Additional legal action may also result.

Motorcoaches may only load and/or unload passengers at the numbered stops listed on this site and identified by special signs, or at designated areas at hotels, restaurants and other attractions. The loading and/or unloading of passengers should be completed as expeditiously as possible and should not exceed 15 minutes.

Motor coaches may not park or stand anywhere except in the designated areas.

While in the parking areas, motorcoaches may not idle engines for more than 10 minutes prior to their time of departure. Under certain weather conditions, motorcoaches will be allowed to idle their engines longer.

To ensure the safety of the riding public on double-decker buses, children 10 years or younger may only be allowed on the upper level when accompanied by an adult. Passengers are not allowed to stand in the upper level of a double-decker bus while the bus is moving.

City of Chicago licenses are not required for motorcoaches that transport passengers to the City from other destinations or from the City to other destinations.
