Whirlwind Chicago
The Windy City offers plenty to keep students busy, including world-class museums, historic theaters and one-of-a-kind attractions. Be sure to make time to play on the lakefront at Navy Pier or catch a pro sports game in season.
Day 1
Begin your visit at the Museum Campus, a lakefront park that connects The Field Museum, Shedd Aquarium and Adler Planetarium & Astronomy Museum. Then head for Navy Pier, offering attractions that include the Chicago Shakespeare Theater, Chicago Children's Museum, an IMAX Theater and a sky-high Ferris wheel. Have lunch at the pier at Bubba Gump Shrimp Co., a fun seafood restaurant. You can also hop on a sightseeing or dining cruise aboard one of the ships docked at Navy Pier. For dinner, sample Chicago's famed deep-dish pizza at Pizzeria Uno, where it was invented back in 1943. Afterwards, see a play in the Loop Theater District, where you'll find Broadway in Chicago shows presented in historic theaters.
Day 2
Get a panoramic view of Chicago from the Willis Tower’s Skydeck Chicago, located atop one of North America's tallest buildings, or the 94th-floor John Hancock Observatory on the Magnificent Mile. Next stop is The Art Institute, one of the world's leading art museums, which houses the stunning Modern Wing. Nearby is Millennium Park, Chicago's fabulous lakefront showplace for the arts. Have lunch at the Park Grill, which features a huge outdoor patio in the summer. Afterwards, head for Lincoln Park and The Notebaert Nature Museum or the Chicago History Museum. Close by is the free Lincoln Park Zoo and its noted Regenstein Center for African Apes. Have dinner at Ed Debevic's, a 1950s-style diner known for its wisecracking singing and dancing wait staff.
Day 3
Explore the Museum of Science and Industry, with more than 800 exhibits that include the popular U-505 Submarine. Then see Chicago's skyline via boat on Chicago's First Lady with a guide from the Chicago Architecture Foundation. For lunch, try a real Chicago-style hot dog at Portillo’s. Next, visit the Museum of Contemporary Art, showcasing cutting-edge works by thought-provoking artists. Or, depending on the season, catch Chicago Cubs or White Sox baseball, join in the fun of a Chicago Fire soccer match, rally at a Chicago Bears football game, cheer on the Chicago Bulls basketball team or watch Chicago Blackhawks hockey action.
